"What We Remember From Childhood We Remember Forever..."

“What we remember from childhood we remember forever - permanent ghosts, stamped, inked, imprinted, eternally seen.” -Cynthia Ozick

About this photo: The girl in this photo is my 2nd cousin, twice removed; Lillian Burnes. She lived on the Burnes homestead that was built and owned by my great, great, great grandfather, George Washington Burnes. She is the daughter of Glen & Anna Burnes and wife of George Ziegler. Lillian's two son's still own the property and have taken great care to preserve the memories of our ancestors. The home that you see in the background of this photo is still standing today. I was thrilled to go back to Indiana in 2007 and 2009 to see and walk inside this 180 year old home. Oh how I wished those walls could speak.
Date of photo: 1924.
Place: Hope, Bartholomew, Indiana, USA

What are some things you remember most about your childhood?

Keep connecting the dots. -Sarah :)

  1. Just beautiful....I have gotten to be good friend with the woman who owns my great great grandfather's home in a small town in Wisconsin, I cannot tell you how it felt for the first time to walk into that home and touch the banister for the beautiful staircase, or see fixtures that are in vintage photos I own still being used!
